Sobczak (Thomas C.) Memorial Scholarship

The Thomas C. Sobczak Memorial Scholarship in the amount of $500 ($250 each semester) is awarded to one full-time student majoring in education at GRCC. Tom Sobczak taught business subjects in the Kentwood Public Schools for over two decades, and had 29 years? experience as an educator. Tom was a graduate of GRCC, then known as Grand Rapids Junior College and Ferris State University. He also received a master’s degree in education from Michigan State University. Tom was the first in his family to graduate from college and believed strongly in the value of an education. GRCC provides all students an excellent opportunity to pursue their educational goals. Candidates for the scholarship will have financial need, a minimum GPA of 3.0, and demonstrate community involvement through volunteer work, mentoring, coaching, or other similar ways. Please submit a 250 word essay describing why you are a good candidate for the scholarship, and why you are pursuing a career in education.
