Adan Armijo Memorial Baseball/Softball Scholarship
This scholarship was established in memory of Adan Armijo, a former minor league all-star baseball player in the Texas Leagues. Recipients must be baseball or softball athletes of Hispanic descent and have attained a 2.0 GPA. Preference will be given to Mexican- American students. Other recipients may be selected based upon the recommendations of the baseball or softball coaches. Awards may range from $500 to $1,000 per recipient and will be made during the second semester of each academic year.
AESF Society Scholarship
One $300 scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of chemistry. Recipients must intend to continue their education in chemistry and have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA in their freshman year at GRCC.
Albert P. Smith Music Scholarship
The Albert P. Smith Music Scholarship is administered by the GRCC Music Department and awarded to music majors studying voice.
Albertus Elve, Roger DeVries, & Joseph Hesse III Scholarship
Two scholarships will be awarded from this fund:
The Elve-DeVries Chemistry Scholarship is awarded to a full-time or part-time student enrolled in Chemistry.
Teachers of Tomorrow
This scholarship is to be awarded to a prospective elementary or secondary science teacher. Preference will be given to future chemistry teachers and elementary science teachers. Applicants must have completed a minimum of one semester of college work with a grade point of 2.8 or higher, and be a full-time or part-time student.
Alecia Durand Art Scholarship
Selection of a full-time freshman or sophomore student pursuing an artistic career shall be made upon the recommendation of an art instructor, an instructor in another academic area or another adult friend. The scholarship is renewable provided that the recipient maintains a satisfactory GPA as determined by the Art Department faculty.
Aleicia D. Woodrick Scholarship
The recipient will be a female freshman who is enrolled at GRCC on a full- or part-time basis with a grade point average of 2.5 or better. The award is renewable in the sophomore year.
Alexa & Alek Zapata Scholarship
Two $780 scholarships will be available to students of Hispanic descent who are enrolled on a full or part-time basis at GRCC. Recipients must have achieved a minimum 2.8 GPA and intend to secure a degree in elementary education. If a recipient is enrolled on a part-time basis, any part of the award not allocated for tuition may be used to purchase books.
Alice Donahue Excellence In Education Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Alice A. Donahue to encourage students of Polish descent to secure a degree in Occupational Therapy Assisting (OTA). Two annual $400 scholarships will be awarded to selected recipients who have achieved a minimum 2.0 GPA, are of Polish descent and enrolled on a full-time basis in the OTA curriculum. Recipients will be selected by a committee comprised of OTA faculty.
Allen G. Gerrard Scholarship
This fund provides one or more annual $800 scholarships to Hispanic students. First preference will be given to students who have displayed an interest in majoring in one or more foreign languages. Second preference will be given to any Hispanic student majoring in any field of study. This award is available to freshman and sophomore students.
Alumni Discretionary Scholarship
Former students of GRCC have established this scholarship to commemorate their years at the College while assisting those who are presently attending GRCC. Awards are made based on grade point average to students attending the College full-time.
Alumni Scholarship Fund
Students pursuing any field of study, who is a child of GRCC/JC Alumni, will be considered for a one-time non-renewable scholarship award. An Alumni is defined as an individual who has earned 30 credits or more from GRCC/JC.
Awards will be made in priority order by GPA. Scholarship awards are prorated based on the number of credits a student is enrolled in each semester. All scholarship recipients shall be invited to an Alumni Association Reception in the month of May to honor them for their academic accomplishments.
American Culinary Federation Greater Grand Rapids Chapter Scholarship
The recipient will be a Culinary Arts or Culinary Management major who has completed 30 hours or more at GRCC with a minimum of a 2.50 overall GPA, and who is a resident of south-western Michigan. The award may be used for tuition, fees, books, and other required materials.
American Electroplaters and Surface Finishers Society Scholarship Fund
One $300.00 scholarship will be awarded to a sophomore student who has demonstrated excellence in the study of chemistry. Recipients must intend to continue their education in chemistry and have achieved a minimum 3.00 GPA in their freshman year at GRCC.
Amway Hotel Corporation Scholarship
This award will go to a second year Culinary Arts student who is enrolled full-time and has a minimum of a 3.00 GPA. Scholarship recipients must model sound character, culinary skills and knowledge, and have demonstrated leadership abilities.

Anna Mae Woodard Scholarship
Scholarships from this fund will be awarded to full-time students who have achieved a minimum high school GPA of 3.5 or a minimum college GPA of 3.0. No specific curriculum is required. Applicants will demonstrate good organization and leadership skills, and have an ambition and desire to complete a baccalaureate program. Awards are renewable based on the above criteria and the academic progress of the student. Preference will be given to students who are not receiving financial aid.
Anne Miller Discretionary Scholarship
Anne Miller, a former instructor at GRCC, was honored as Emeritus Faculty of the College with this scholarship fund established in her name. The fund provides one annual scholarship. Awards are made based on grade point average to students attending the College full-time.
Anne Miller Health Related Studies Award
The recipient(s) will be students majoring in Allied Health, Nursing, Pre-Med, Pre-Dental, Pre-Pharmacy, Pre-Veterinary, Pre-Optometry who have successfully completed a one semester biology course such as, BI 117, 121, 126, 127, and/or 151. Preference will be given to students who have financial need.
Ann L. Powell & Robert D. Nylen Memorial Scholarship
This scholarship was created by food and wine professionals from throughout the greater Grand Rapids community in memory of Ann L. Powell and Robert D. Nylen, both former managers at Gibson?s Restaurant. One annual $700 scholarship will be available to a GRCC sophomore who is a Culinary major. Recipients must have achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA and will be selected by the Secchia Institute of Culinary Education Scholarship Committee.
Armen & Pat Oumedian Health Care Scholarship
This scholarship was established by Armen Oumedian, a graduate of GRJC, to provide students an opportunity to study and work in the Health Care field. This fund is available to full-time students majoring in the Practical Nursing program at GRCC. First preference will go to PN students that are employed at Porter Hills. If no Porter Hills employee applies, the award will be given to a qualified recipient working in another long-term care facility. Recipients must have at least a 2.5 GPA. If there are no recipients that meet the above criteria, the award will go to a Practical Nursing student meeting only the GPA requirement.
Armen & Pat Oumedian Pipeline Scholarship Award
This scholarship was established by Armen Oumedian, a graduate of GRJC and Kettering University, to provide GRCC students an opportunity to study in the pre-engineering field (i.e. management, IT, mathematics and related fields). This fund is available to second year; full-time students with a 3.0 GPA and with the intent to transfer to Kettering University after graduating from GRCC. Students transferring to Kettering University will have the opportunity to apply and receive a $2,000 Kettering University Scholarships once accepted to KU.
Arnold & Mary Lynne Terpstra Scholarship
Scholarships from this fund will be awarded to students from Kenowa Hills Public High School, Grand Rapids Christian High School or Calvin Christian High School who are attending GRCC on a full-time basis.
Arthur Andersen, LLP Accounting Scholarship
First preference in awarding this scholarship shall be given to employees of Arthur Andersen LLP. In the event that there is no applicant with Arthur Andersen LLP, an annual scholarship will be awarded to a full-time freshman accounting major who has maintained a 3.5 high school GPA. The award is renewable for the sophomore year provided the recipient re-enrolls as a full-time student and has maintained a 3.0 GPA.
Arthur Andrews Memorial Library
Contributions to the Arthur Andrews Memorial Library Fund are used for the acquisition of books for the GRCC Library as well as other supplies and services for the Library as approved by the Director.
Arthur C. Long Memorial
This fund was established in memory of Arthur Craig Long, a Grand Rapids Public Schools student. The scholarships will be awarded to inner-city students who will attend Grand Rapids Community College.
Arthur Dawson Golf Scholarship
This fund was established in memory of Arthur Dawson. Scholarships will be awarded to GRCC students who have demonstrated an interest in the sport of golf. The awards will be based upon grade point average and golf qualification scores.
Winners of the Annual High School Invitational Art Competition will be the first recipients of this scholarship. A committee of Art Department faculty will recommend recipients for additional awards. The recipient must be carrying two art courses per semester.
Asian Student Organization Scholarship
The Asian Student Organization makes awards to Asian students attending Grand Rapids Community College. Awards may be based on applicant need and circumstances. Applicants must apply to the Asian Student Organization and be approved by the organization?s executive board and GRCC staff advisor.
Audrey L. Wright Scholarship
This scholarship will be awarded to students who have demonstrated exceptional ability in the study of a foreign language during their freshman year at GRCC and who intend to enroll in the intermediate foreign language courses during their sophomore year at GRCC. Students will be selected by the Foreign Language Department.
Audrey R. Riebel Memorial
Established by Mr. Richard Riebel in memory of his wife, Audrey, this fund provides ten scholarships annually to students at GRCC. Awards are made based on grade point average to students attending the College full-time.
