Mary Free Bed - Disability Scholarship Programs
The Mary Free Bed Guild, established in 1891, is a nonprofit organization that owns Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation Hospital. In 2013, the Guild created the Disability Scholarship Program intended for individuals who would meet similar challenges as the patients Mary Free Bed treats on a daily basis.
An individual is eligible to apply for a one-year scholarship for education-related expenses if he or she meets the established criteria. The scholarship amounts may vary depending on individual needs.
â€¢ Must possess a diagnosed physical disability related to a brain injury, spinal cord injury, stroke, limb difference, or overcoming any other serious acquired or congenital neurological condition treatable through rehabilitation
â€¢ Cumulative high school or college GPA of 2.5 or better on a 4.0 scale (overall and in the chosen area of study)
â€¢ Must be able to competitively apply oneself in the desired
field of study, potentially with reasonable accommodations
â€¢ Student currently enrolled in, or accepted into an accredited college or university as at least a half-time status (Half time as determined by the school)
â€¢ Demonstrates leadership abilities through participation in community service, extracurricular, or other volunteer activities
â€¢ Citizen of the United States
â€¢ Demonstrates a commitment to serving diverse populations
â€¢ Must be a permanent resident of Michigan
