English Department Scholarship

The English Department scholarship is funded by contributions made by the English Department faculty and staff, and is open to students pursuing any area of study (an English major or minor is not required). Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in Language Arts courses such as English Composition, Literature, Speech and Communications, Foreign Language, and Philosophy, with an overall GPA of 3.0 and a 3.3 GPA in English and Language Arts coursework. Applicants must also demonstrate involvement in extra-curricular activities.

Required Application Materials:

  • A One-Two Page Cover Letter: 12-point type, double-spaced. Summarize your eligibility for this scholarship. Include your educational history and goals, coursework in English and Language Arts, and involvement in extra-curricular activities.
  • A Writing Sample: Submit an essay, a research paper, or a writing project completed for a college level class, no more than 12 pages in length.

Freshman Status: Students must be currently enrolled at GRCC to apply, with the intention of completing coursework during both Fall and Winter semesters. Dual Enrolled and Middle College high school students are not eligible for the English Department Scholarships.

  1. Attach transcripts for any college you have attended (entering freshman may apply without a transcript)
  2. I understand that I must meet the GPA requirement for each scholarship to which I apply. If my GPA does not meet the minimum GPA requirement when the Fall semester GPA is calculated (after the end of the Fall semester), any GPA-dependent scholarship award and/or scholarship funds applied to my student account will be withdrawn.
  3. Please upload a Letter of Recommendation from a faculty member.
